EUREKA STOCKADE
Historiography.
Licence fees for gold miners were increased and collected twice a week.  Police arrested an immigrant who had a licence.  A publican suspected of murder was acquitted.  A riot ensued and a Eureka Southern Cross flag was made.  The police tried to quell the revolt, killing 22.  The miners won with an export duty being place on gold instead of licence fees.
